The whizs of “Hidden Figures” mercy the February cover of Essence magazine with style, knockout and pride.

The cover features Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae, all of whom portray the untold story of three pitch-black women’s groundbreaking efforts to send the first Americans into space in the 1960 s. The ladies, also known as NASA’s “colored computers, ” broke down racial and gender issues hurdles while realise American history.

Henson, who plays lead mathematician Katherine Johnson, told the magazine what it meant to her to portray her character.

“When I was growing up, beings told me out of their openings math and discipline are for sons. I was told that over and over, ” she told Essence. “Like , no one showed me how to fall in love with figures. If I had a teacher like Mrs. Johnson, who knows, I might be on the moon.”

Spencer, who has numerous nominations( and is on some people’s rollsfor an Oscar nod) for her character as NASA’s first pitch-black bos Dorothy Vaughan, announced her reference “the genesis of Black Girls Code.”

Monae, who plays NASA’s first black aerospace operator Mary Jackson, shared how passionate she was to show the three women’s sisterhood as an integrated part of their successful mission.

Hidden Figures”premieres nationally on January 6. Essence magazine’s February problem will be available January 13.
